The History of Terex

The above is an introduction to Terex and some of its products. If you want to learn about Terex, you must understand its history.

1933-1970

In 1933, the Armington brothers founded the Euclid Company, which was the predecessor of the Terex Corporation.

Euclid's success in designing and constructing haul trucks later caught the attention of General Motors, who purchased Euclid in 1953. The Euclid department of General Motors was responsible for developing and selling large equipment, and at that time, over half of the off highway dump trucks in the United States were sold by the Euclid department. However, Euclid's outstanding performance brought a negative outcome, as the US Department of Justice filed an antitrust lawsuit against General Motors, forcing it to stop producing and selling off highway trucks in the US for four years, and forcing the sale of some Euclid business and the Euclid brand. In 1970, General Motors created the name "Terex" for its construction equipment products and trucks that were not affected by the ruling. The word 'Terex' comes from the Latin words' terra '(earth) and' rex '(king). The retained new Terex business unit produces tracked vehicles, front-end loaders, and loaders.

In the 1970s

After the Terex division of General Motors gradually grew and expanded, it invented and built the industry's most famous heavy construction equipment, including the world's first off-road trailer (1Z Trac Truk), the world's first dual power bulldozer (TC-12), and the world's largest truck Terex 33-19 "Titan" produced in the 1970s. The only Titan prototype produced was used until 1990 and is now displayed in Sparwood, British Columbia, near the mine it once served. Although its carrying capacity (370 tons) is not the world's largest, it is still the largest truck in the world in terms of size.

In the 1980s

The economic recession of the 1980s paid a price for Terex, and in 1981, General Motors sold Terex to IBH Holdings, owned by German businessman Dieter Esch. IBH Holdings went bankrupt during the global economic recession and declared bankruptcy in 1983. The ownership of Terex returned to General Motors and was adjusted to Terex Equipment Limited (TEL), a production branch located in Scotland, as well as Terex USA, a distributor of Terex products in the Western Hemisphere and equipment and parts manufacturer with a factory located in Hudson, Ohio.
